Wangechi Muti is a Kenyan-born, New York-based artist whose mixed media works combine drawing, sculpture, and video to explore themes of gender, identity, race, and the body.
In 2007, Wangechi Mutu created Cassandra, a collage that portrays alluring, alien-like organisms with feminine arms, reminiscent of microscopic phytoplankton. This piece incorporates plant material and plastic elements, highlighting Mutu's innovative use of mixed media. Cassandra exemplifies her exploration of hybrid forms, blending human and otherworldly elements to challenge perceptions of femininity.
